Experience
Tony has over 30 years’ experience of advising the construction industry in all its diverse sectors, representing consultants, developers/owners and contractors, undertaking both contentious and transactional work of a domestic and international nature. Tony trained as a mediator in the early 90’s and has undertaken some substantial mediations since then.

Tony is familiar with all the domestic UK forms of construction and consultancy contracts, as well as those used internationally, particularly FIDIC and NEC. He has worked on a variety of PFI contracts in the health and education sectors, and negotiated substantial construction and consultancy contracts for clients.

Examples of Work Undertaken
• Project and advisory work – Bespoke amendments to all the major UK standard forms of construction contract for a major pharmaceutical research and development project.
• Bespoke amendments to JCT Design/Build contracts for high technology contracts in Wales and an embassy building in Ghana.
• Preparation of a suite of contracts for a leading firm of construction managers.
• Negotiation of professional appointments for architects working in the UK and overseas.
• Disputes work - Conduct of major multi-party actions for an NHS Trust and Housing Associations, defending specialist contractors against claims by a leading City Institution, conduct of claims for a liquidator on a major leisure development in Singapore, challenging an arbitrator’s award on behalf of a Brazilian contractor.

Pro Bono
Tony has advised on contractual issues for many industry bodies including the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, the Construction Industry Council, the Association of Consultant Architects, the Royal Institute of Architects and the Society of Chief Architects for Local Authorities. Until recently Tony was a member of the New Engineering Contract Panel and assisted in the production of the third edition of their contract, now in use for the Olympic Project.

Tony has always taken a keen interest in training and has devised courses for use within law firms and continues to give presentations and seminars for lawyers and practitioners in the industry, most recently on the forthcoming amendments to the Construction Act due to come into force in October of 2011.
