• Called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn: 2002

• Qualified as Solicitor January 2008

Type of Work
• Advising predominantly employer clients on a broad range of employment law and HR issues including handling grievances and disciplinaries, sickness absence and managing performance;
• Advising on all types of discrimination in particular disability discrimination;
• Advising on mergers and compliance with TUPE, restructuring and carrying out redundancies;
• Advising on employment status and volunteers;
• Drafting and reviewing contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, policies and procedures;
• Representation at employment tribunals;
• Preparing contentious cases for hearing and negotiating settlements;
• Judicial mediation

Examples of work undertaken
• Successfully defended a sex discrimination claim brought by an employee against a CEO;
• Successfully defending constructive dismissal claim arising out of allegations of bullying and harrassment;
• Defending a multi-day claim alleging a failure to make reasonable adjustments;
• Securing strike out of claims at Pre-Hearing reviews;
• Defending claims for failure to consult and unfair dismissal under TUPE Regulations in multi-party litigation;
• Acting on the case of X v Mid Sussex CAB [2010] IRLR 722, in which the Courtof Appeal upheld the EAT decision that volunteers were not covered by the term "occupation" in the European Framework Directive for the purpose of protection from disability discrimination. The case is currently subject to an appeal to the Supreme Court.
