Areas of expertise
• Media disputes: Having spent nearly five years as a news reporter himself, Mark possesses hands-on experience of negotiating the pitfalls of defamation, privacy, contempt of court and intellectual property laws. As a solicitor Mark has advised publishers - for example a health services company on defamation liability arising from the use of social media for marketing purposes. Mark also acts for claimants, having worked on two groundbreaking, pre-publication privacy injunctions against the national media on behalf of high-profile individuals. One of these matters (JIH v News Group Newspapers) resulted in a leading decision from the Court of Appeal.
• Intellectual property: Matters include advising an online gaming company in respect of a potential passing-off action against a rival gaming firm, and acting for a children's games producer in a dispute relating to trade mark infringement, domain name assignment and IP licensing. Mark has also acted for producers of luxury goods against makers of cheap copies in claims for copyright and design right infringement.
• Commercial litigation: Mark has worked on a wide range of disputes for both individuals and corporate clients, handling matters relating to banking, professional negligence, contractual disputes, breach of competition law, white collar crime and family law.
